Advance Reservation (Dial-A-Ride)

Cass County Public Transportation is a county-wide, origin to destination, advance reservation public transportation system available to anyone of any age who is capable of traveling. All riders must call 24 hrs in advance. To make a reservation, riders must call at least 24 hours in advance, and no later than 1:30 p.m. on the business day before the desired ride date. For Monday rides, please call no later than the Friday before the desired ride. Reservations can only be accepted for trips that originate are within the boundaries of Cass County, or at transfer points for Niles Dial-A-Ride, St. Joseph County (Michigan) Transportation Authority, or Van Buren Public Transit.

Following is a list of communities Cass County Transit serves:

City of Dowagiac, coordinating with the Dowagiac Dial a Ride system, Villages of: Cassopolis, Edwardsburg, Marcellus and Vandalia and the Townships of: Calvin, Howard, Jefferson, LaGrange, Marcellus, Mason, Milton, Newberg, Ontwa, Penn, Pokagon, Porter, Silver Creek, Volinia and Wayne.  There are also frequent to trips to Niles, with a stop at the Niles Dial a Ride bus station.  

How Do I Schedule a Ride?

Rides are reserved on a first-called/first-served, space available basis. Reservations are taken for trips to travel Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Reservations for the following day must be made by 1:30 pm. Capacity and schedules are limited, so please call as soon as possible.  We do ask that you call as soon as you know you are going to need a ride (please no earlier than seven days) whenever possible. When Will I Be Picked Up and Returned Home?

When scheduling a ride, your actual pickup time will be within a 20-minute window of your requested pickup time (e.g. pickup time for a 10:00 requested pickup will be between 9:40 and 10:20). You may wait inside your pickup location until the bus arrives. If you are not visible to the driver at the pickup location, he/she will sound the bus horn and will wait up to three (3) minutes. For your return trip, the driver will pick you up within fifteen (15) minutes of your requested return time. Should your trip times change, or you wish to cancel, please notify the scheduling office immediately.

Cancelling Reservations / No-Show Policy

If a scheduled ride is no longer needed, please kindly cancel the reservation by calling Cass County Public Transportation Dispatch at 269-445-2455 or 800-323-2508, Extension 1. If a rider fails to take a scheduled ride without cancelling at least sixty (60) before the scheduled pickup, a “No-Show” infraction will be issued, and a No-Show fee will be assessed that must be paid at or before the time of the next ride. Riders are verbally notified of each No-Show infraction.

Hours of Operation

Service is available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., except legal holidays.

Fares

Rides between points that are within five (5) miles from Base (400 E State St, Cassopolis) are $3.50 ($1.75 reduced fare*). Rides that go beyond five (5) miles from Base are $5.50 ($2.75 reduced fare*) Children aged 5-12 accompanied by an adult may ride for half fare. If not accompanied by an adult, the child must pay the full fare. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 1 may ride fare-free.
