TCATA and Paratransit Service

The Twin Cities Area Transportation Authority (TCATA) has implemented Paratransit services for residents living within *3/4 of a mile (or a 2 minute walk) on either side of the current Blue and Red Fixed Route bus stops located throughout Benton Harbor and St. Joseph.

*This excludes the Red route, commuter service that extends to Stevensville.

Paratransit Service Requirements

In order to meet the American Disability Act (ADA) requirements, the Paratransit service must operate the same hours of the Fixed Routes to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equitable access to  transportation that those who currently have access to the Fixed Routes does.

Eligibility for Paratransit Services

Not all persons with disabilities will be eligible for the paratransit services. Only those who have a disability that prevents him/her from using the fixed routes will be eligible to apply. It is only after TCATA staff approves the application, that one would be eligible to receive the paratransit services. The regular On Demand/Dial-a-ride service will continue to be available for people not living within 3/4 (two minutes) of a mile from the fixed route bus system.
